Darwin Genius is offered in three plans, which an Admin can compare and choose in Profile > Subscriptions. Free is perfect for an individual or a small team starting to get bigger; Core is meant for medium companies with recurrent state-of-the-art service needs; and Prime is for medium or large companies with intensive needs wanting advanced tools and support. Every plan lets you screen trade mark concepts with Positioned Screening, comes with an allowance of Silver credits, produces reports in PDF or Excel and gives access to expert human analysis paid in Gold credits per jurisdiction. As you move up, the monthly Silver allowance grows, screening becomes All-You-Can-Screen (without details in Core, with full details in Prime), upgrading a Screening to a Search costs fewer credits, and advanced AI-powered analytics are added. Gold credits, which you buy separately, never expire and are used only when no Silver credits remain. Prices are not given in the Help Centre because they change: Subscriptions shows the current offer and the current credit figures, and the sales team (Pedro Lima for Portuguese-speaking markets, Franck Monteiro for Brazil and Latin America, Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 18:00 Portugal time) can help you choose. Genius has its own subscription, separate from any subscription your account has for Darwin GSE or other Darwin Suite systems.
Simple, detailed, or a full search
A simple screening tells you quickly whether a name, logo or slogan is distinctive enough and whether obvious conflicts exist in the jurisdictions and Nice classes you choose. A detailed screening adds the analysis behind that verdict: the closest marks, why they are close, and the colours and concepts your design conveys. When a concept becomes the one, upgrade it to a full search with the same engine and data as Darwin GSE, with a ranked results list and AI Assisted Analysis, or have an expert analyse it, paid in Gold credits per jurisdiction, before you present it to the client. Every plan, including Free, gives access to expert human analysis.

Darwin Genius plans, credits and payment: your questions
Which Darwin Genius plans are available?
What does the Free plan include?
The Free plan is designed for an individual or a small team starting to get bigger, and it lets you try Darwin Genius on real concepts without committing to a paid plan. At the time of writing it gives you 225 Silver credits when you sign up, plus 150 Silver credits every month. A Positioned Screening costs 38 Silver credits, and that Simple Screening shows you the availability picture: the summary text, the coloured Distribution Chart and the world maps. If you want to see the details of the marks behind the results, you can upgrade a Simple Screening to a Detailed Screening for 113 Silver credits. You can export your screenings to PDF or Excel, and if you would like an expert to authenticate a screening or a search, expert human analysis is available at 200 Gold credits per jurisdiction for a Screening and 300 Gold credits per jurisdiction for a Search; support or the sales team arrange it for you. When your Silver credits run out, any Gold credits you have bought are used instead, and Gold credits never expire. The cost of each screening also depends on the jurisdictions you choose, and Confirmation of Purchase always shows the exact cost and your balance before you proceed. These figures can change, so check Profile > Subscriptions for the current ones.
What do the Core and Prime plans add?
Core and Prime are for teams that screen regularly. At the time of writing, Core is meant for medium companies with recurrent state-of-the-art service needs and gives you 350 Silver credits a month and All-You-Can-Screen without details, which means you can run Positioned Screenings without paying for each one but see the Simple Screening picture (summary, colours and maps). Upgrading a Simple Screening to a Detailed Screening costs 75 Silver credits, and upgrading a Screening to a Search, which opens the full ranked results list, costs 200 Silver credits. Core also includes reports, advanced AI analytics, and expert human analysis at 175 Gold credits per jurisdiction for a Screening and 250 for a Search. Prime is for medium or large companies with intensive needs wanting advanced tools and support: it gives you 750 Silver credits a month and All-You-Can-Screen with full details, so the details of the marks behind your results are included, while upgrading a Screening to a Search costs 150 Silver credits. Prime also includes reports, advanced AI-powered analytics and expert human analysis at 150 Gold credits per jurisdiction for a Screening and 200 for a Search. In both plans Gold credits are used only when no Silver credits remain, and they never expire. Figures can change, so Profile > Subscriptions always shows the current ones; for prices, see Subscriptions or contact the sales team.
What does All-You-Can-Screen mean?
All-You-Can-Screen means that, within your plan, you can run as many Positioned Screenings as you need without each one being charged against your credits, so you can test variations of a name, a logo sketch or a slogan freely while the concept is still being created. What you get from each screening depends on the plan. In Core, All-You-Can-Screen is without details: you see the Simple Screening picture, that is the summary text, the coloured Distribution Chart and the world maps, and if you want the details of the marks behind the results you upgrade that screening to a Detailed Screening, which is charged. In Prime, All-You-Can-Screen comes with full details, so the details of the marks are included. In both plans, upgrading a Screening to a Search with View results, which opens the full ranked results list with filters, selection, Search this Image and AI Assisted Analysis, is still charged per the plan, as is expert human analysis in Gold credits. The Free plan does not include All-You-Can-Screen: each screening is charged in Silver credits. Before anything is charged, Confirmation of Purchase shows you what the operation will cost and your balance before and after, so you always know in advance. The current conditions of each plan are shown in Profile > Subscriptions.
Plans are changed by an Admin of the account. Open Profile > Subscriptions, where the Free, Core and Prime plans of Darwin Genius are shown side by side with what each includes, choose the plan you want and confirm. If you are a Contributor or a Reader you will not see the Subscriptions panel, so ask one of your Admins, whom you can find in Profile > Team. The new plan takes effect the next time you sign in, so sign out and back in once the change is confirmed. When you move to a higher plan the increase is charged pro rata for the rest of the current period, and payment uses the cards, PayPal or current account kept in Billing. The new plan brings its own monthly allowance of Silver credits and its own conditions, such as All-You-Can-Screen and the cost of upgrades. Gold credits you have already bought are not affected: they never expire and remain on the account whatever plan you choose, and they continue to be used only when no Silver credits remain. Remember that the subscription is per system, so changing your Genius plan does not change any plan your account has for Darwin GSE or other Darwin Suite systems. If you are unsure which plan suits you, or want to know the price, the sales team can help.
How much does a screening cost, and how is it calculated?
The cost of a screening is calculated for each operation, based on the service you are using, your account's country and the jurisdictions you choose; the info text beside the Nice classes also tells you that adding or removing classes affects the cost. You never have to work it out yourself: before anything is charged, the Confirmation of Purchase window shows what the operation will cost, under This search will cost, and your balance before and after, and nothing happens until you press Proceed. Costs are expressed in credits rather than money. At the time of writing, on the Free plan a Screening uses 38 Silver credits and upgrading it to a Detailed Screening 113 more. On Core, screenings are All-You-Can-Screen without details, the upgrade to Detailed costs 75 Silver credits and upgrading a Screening to a Search 200. On Prime, All-You-Can-Screen includes full details and the upgrade to a Search costs 150 Silver credits. Expert analysis by a human is paid in Gold credits per jurisdiction. These figures can change, and Profile > Subscriptions always shows the current ones for your account. Running the same screening again with unchanged parameters does not charge you again, but changing the text, jurisdictions, classes or concepts creates a new configuration that is priced afresh. For the money price of credits or plans, see Subscriptions or ask the sales team.
What is the difference between Silver and Gold credits?
Genius uses two kinds of credits, and both appear in the user menu. Silver credits come with your plan and are added every month: on Free you receive 225 when you sign up plus 150 a month, on Core 350 a month and on Prime 750 a month, according to the figures at the time of writing; Profile > Subscriptions shows the current ones. Gold credits are the ones you buy, with the + next to your balance. They never expire, and they are used only when no Silver credits remain, so buying Gold credits is a way of making sure a screening or an upgrade is not interrupted when your monthly Silver allowance runs out. When an operation costs more than your Silver credits cover, the Confirmation of Purchase window shows the balance before and after, so you can see what will be drawn. Some services are priced in Gold credits from the start: the expert-authenticated analysis by a human, which your plan offers for screenings and searches at a number of Gold credits per jurisdiction. Credits belong to the account rather than to you personally, so everybody working in the same account draws on the same balance, and the account's subscriptions and billing are shared across the Darwin Suite systems it uses.
Where can I see my credit balance?
Your balance is always in the user menu at the top right of the screen, under Balance, shown separately as Silver and Gold credits. Next to it is the + button for buying more credits. The balance belongs to the account you have selected, not to you personally: everybody who works in the same account shares it, so it can go down because a colleague has run a screening. If you belong to several accounts, check which one is selected in Accounts before you start, because each has its own balance. Before every paid operation, the Confirmation of Purchase window shows your available balance before the operation and what it will be after it, and, if the balance is not enough, the Remaining cost you would need to pay. This is the easiest place to check what a particular screening or upgrade will take. Silver credits come with your plan each month and are used first; Gold credits are bought, never expire and are used only when no Silver credits remain. Admins also have the Billing panel in Profile, where the account's cards, PayPal and current account are managed, and Profile > Subscriptions, which shows the plan and the credits it includes. If the balance does not look right after a payment, contact support from the Help Centre.
Press the + next to your balance in the user menu. The window that opens, headed Prepare your account for non-interrupted operations, offers several tiers of Gold Credits, one of them marked Most popular, each showing the number of credits and the amount billed once. Choose a tier and press Purchase Credits. Gold credits never expire and are used only when no Silver credits are available, so they keep your work going when your plan's monthly Silver credits run out. Depending on how you reach it, you may instead see Transaction details with Funding options, where you select the amount of funds to add; some amounts come with a bonus, shown before you confirm. Review the transaction and press Add funds. Payment is made with PayPal, either with a PayPal account or with a card through PayPal, or with a card you have saved; card data is processed by PayPal. When the payment goes through you see Payment was accepted. and the credits are added to the account, where every user of the account can use them. You can also pay for what you are missing at the moment you need it: if the Confirmation of Purchase window shows a Remaining cost, Payment Options lets you pay it there. The amounts are shown in the window and in Subscriptions; for larger needs, talk to the sales team.
What does the Confirmation of Purchase window show?
The Confirmation of Purchase window appears before any paid screening, upgrade or search, so that you always know what you are about to spend. It sums up the operation: its type, the Jurisdictions it covers (All when you have not limited them), and the Nice classes. Below that, This search will cost gives the cost in credits, and your available balance is shown as it is now and as it will be after the operation, so you can see exactly what will be drawn from your Silver and, if needed, Gold credits. If your balance is not enough, the window also shows the Remaining cost, the part you would still have to pay. You then have three choices. Cancel closes the window and nothing is charged; you can go back and change the jurisdictions or classes if the cost is more than you expected. Proceed runs the operation when your balance covers it. Payment Options lets you pay with PayPal, either a PayPal account or a card through PayPal, or with a saved card. After payment you see Success, telling you the search is being executed; keep the page open until the results arrive. Reading this window carefully is the best way to avoid surprises, especially when you have selected many jurisdictions.
How do I pay with PayPal or a card?
When the Confirmation of Purchase window shows that your balance does not cover an operation, or when you buy credits, choose Payment Options. Payment is processed using PayPal, which lets you pay either with a PayPal account or with a valid card, such as Visa or Mastercard, without needing a PayPal account. If you choose PayPal, you sign in and approve the payment in PayPal's own window. If you pay by card, you can use a card you have saved or add a New card by entering the Card holder, Card number, Expiration date (MM/YY) and CVC. By paying with a card you acknowledge that your data is processed by PayPal under the PayPal Privacy Statement; saved cards are afterwards shown only by their last digits. If you change which method is your default, you are asked to confirm it. When the payment goes through, you see Payment was accepted. and, for a screening or search, Success, telling you that the search is being executed and that you can close the message but should not navigate away from the form. Keep the page open until the results appear. If something fails you see a message such as Payment was stopped or rejected. or The card is not valid!, and you can check the details and try again or use the other method.
How do I save, change or set a default card?
You can add a card when paying, from Payment Options, or, if you are an Admin, in Profile > Billing, which keeps the account's cards, PayPal and current account. To add one, choose New card and fill in the Card holder, Card number, Expiration date in the form MM/YY and the CVC. If something is missing you see Please fill your card information., and if the details are not accepted, The card is not valid!; check each field, in particular the expiry date and security code. Saved cards appear under My cards, each identified by its last digits and expiry date, with (expired) next to any card that has passed its date, so you know to replace it. One card can be marked Default card; it is offered first when you pay. To use a different saved card, choose Change Card; when you change the default, or switch the default payment between a card and PayPal, you are asked to confirm, for example to change to the payment card ending in the digits shown. Cards you no longer use can be deleted, again with a confirmation. Card data is processed by PayPal, whichever card you use. Saved cards belong to the account, so what you can manage there, rather than just use, depends on your role.
When is a screening actually charged?
Nothing is charged until you confirm. When you start a screening, an upgrade or a search, the Confirmation of Purchase window shows the cost and your balance before and after, and you decide whether to press Proceed, use Payment Options or Cancel. Pressing Proceed, or completing a payment, authorises the operation, and you see Success, telling you that the search is being executed and that you can close the message but should not navigate away from the form. The charge itself is completed once the results arrive. That is why it is important to keep the page open while the results table fills in, with each result type moving from Loading... to Ready. If your plan includes All-You-Can-Screen, ordinary screenings within it are covered, but upgrades that your plan prices separately are not, and they go through the same confirmation. When the screening has run, it stays available as a card in the strip at the top of the page for the rest of your session, and reopening it does not charge you again. If a screening fails or never produces results, do not run it repeatedly; contact support from the Help Centre with its Reference, so that the team can look at what happened.
Do I pay again to reopen a screening I have already run?
No, not for the same screening in the same session. Each screening or search you run appears as a card in the strip at the top of the page; hover over it to see its Reference, Search type, Search Text, Jurisdictions, Nice classes and Semantic concepts, and click it to reopen the results without paying again. Running the same configuration again with unchanged parameters does not re-run or re-charge it either. What does count as new is a change. If you alter the text, the jurisdictions, the Nice classes or the semantic concepts after a screening has run, Genius shows a Reminder that the search parameters have changed, a new configuration was created and you must redo the search with the new parameters. That new configuration is a new screening and is priced again, with its own Confirmation of Purchase. If you only wanted to look at the results differently, use the filters on the results screen instead. Keep in mind that the session strip is cleared when you sign out, and Genius has no history page, so export to PDF or Excel any screening you want to keep before you leave. Screening the same concept again in a later session is treated as a new operation.
My payment was rejected or did not finish. What now?
Read the message first, because it tells you what to do. Payment was stopped or rejected. means the payment did not go through, for instance because you closed the PayPal window or the card was declined; you can try again. The card is not valid! means the card details were not accepted: check the card number, the expiry date in MM/YY form and the CVC, and that the card has not expired. Please fill your card information. means a field is missing. If one card keeps failing, try another saved card with Change Card, or pay through PayPal with a PayPal account. If you see There was a problem connecting with our servers. Please contact support to finalize this operation., the payment may have reached PayPal without the operation being completed: do not pay again, but contact support from the Help Centre with the Reference of the screening or search, the time and the payment method, so that the team can check it and finish the operation. The same applies if you paid and the results never arrived. Keeping the page open after paying, as the Success message asks, avoids most interrupted operations. Your bank or PayPal can tell you whether a payment was actually taken.
