Darwin GSE plans

Search trade marks, logos and slogans by image, sound and meaning, and pay only for what you use.

Screening, searching and credits

GSE offers two kinds of check. A Positioned Screening gives a quick availability picture: a short summary of whether oppositions are possible, colour-coded charts and world maps showing where an opposition may be likely. A Search is the full clearance tool: ranked results lists for graphical, textual, non-graphical, colour and semantic similarity, with filters, selection, cropping, inactive records and AI Assisted Analysis. A screening can be turned into a search whenever a candidate is worth it, and the Confirmation of Purchase window always shows the cost before anything runs.

Usage is paid with credits. Silver credits come with your plan every month; Gold credits are bought once and never expire. On Core and Prime, All-You-Can-Screen and All-You-Can-Search mean that screenings and text searches in the Portuguese, European Union, international (WIPO) and Spanish registers consume no credits at all. Prime also includes graphical searches in those registers. Any other jurisdiction can be opened for 24 hours or 3 days for unlimited textual and graphical searching; support activates it for your account. Expert analysis by a person is paid in Gold credits per jurisdiction and is arranged with support or the sales team.

Prices are per month and are the same in every country. You can also pay in GBP, USD, AUD, BRL, CAD, CHF, HKD, JPY, NOK or SEK at checkout. Paying yearly saves the equivalent of two months. Taxes are added where applicable. Plans can be upgraded, downgraded or switched between monthly and yearly billing at any time by an Admin, in Profile > Subscriptions.

Darwin GSE plans, credits and payment: your questions

Darwin GSE is offered in three plans, which an Admin can compare and choose in Profile > Subscriptions. Free is described as perfect for an individual or a small team starting to get bigger: it gives you Silver credits when you sign up and a smaller amount every month, and you pay for each screening, text search or jurisdiction you open with those credits. Core is aimed at medium companies with recurrent state-of-the-art service needs: it comes with a much larger monthly allowance of Silver credits, All-You-Can-Screen with full details, All-You-Can-Search for text in Portugal, the European Union, international registrations and Spain, advanced AI-powered analytics and access to expert human analysis. Prime is for medium or large companies with intensive needs wanting advanced tools and support: it raises the monthly allowance again, extends All-You-Can-Search to graphical as well as textual searching in those four jurisdictions and lowers the credit cost of opening other jurisdictions and of expert analysis. Every plan includes reports in PDF or Excel. Whether a plan can be paid monthly or yearly is shown in Subscriptions when you choose it. Prices are not quoted here because they change: Subscriptions shows the current figures for each plan, and the sales team can help you decide which one suits the volume and kind of searching you do.

The Free plan lets you try Darwin GSE properly before committing to a subscription. When you sign up the account receives 225 Silver credits, and after that it receives 150 Silver credits a month. You spend those credits on the work you do: a detailed Screening costs 113 Silver credits, a text search in the European Union (EU), international registrations (WO), Portugal (PT) or Spain (ES) costs 25 Silver credits, and 250 Silver credits open one jurisdiction for 24 hours of textual and graphical All-You-Can-Search, so that you can run as many searches there as you need during that time. Other searches are priced for the service, your account's country and the jurisdictions you choose, and the Confirmation of Purchase window always shows the exact cost and your balance before and after, before anything is charged. Reports in PDF or Excel are included. If the Silver credits run out you can keep working with Gold credits, which you buy from the + next to your balance in the user menu; they never expire and are only used when no Silver credits remain. These are the figures published at the time of writing; Subscriptions shows the current figures for the Free plan and for the paid plans.

Core and Prime are for teams that search regularly. Core gives the account 1,300 Silver credits a month, All-You-Can-Screen with full details, so Positioned Screenings are not charged one by one, and All-You-Can-Search for text in Portugal, the European Union, international registrations and Spain. Opening another jurisdiction for textual and graphical All-You-Can-Search costs 175 Silver credits for 24 hours or 350 for 3 days. Core also adds advanced AI-powered analytics and expert human analysis, at 150 Gold credits per jurisdiction for an expert-authenticated Screening analysis and 175 for a Search analysis. Prime gives 1,950 Silver credits a month, All-You-Can-Screen with full details and All-You-Can-Search for both textual and graphical searches in Portugal, the European Union, international registrations and Spain. Opening another jurisdiction costs 150 Silver credits for 24 hours or 250 for 3 days, and expert human analysis costs 125 Gold credits per jurisdiction for a Screening and 150 for a Search. Both plans include reports in PDF or Excel. Expert analysis is arranged with support or the sales team rather than from a button. The figures quoted are those published at the time of writing; Subscriptions shows the current figures, and the sales team can give you the price of each plan.

All-You-Can-Search and All-You-Can-Screen mean that, within the scope your plan defines, you can run as many searches or screenings as you need without each one being charged separately in credits. All-You-Can-Screen, included in Core and Prime with full details, covers Positioned Screening. All-You-Can-Search covers full searches in a fixed set of jurisdictions: Portugal (PT), the European Union (EU), international registrations (WO) and Spain (ES). In Core it applies to text searches there, and in Prime to both textual and graphical searches. Outside that scope searches are priced as usual, but every plan also lets you open a jurisdiction for a limited time for a fixed amount of Silver credits: in Free, 24 hours for 250 credits; in Core, 24 hours for 175 or 3 days for 350; in Prime, 24 hours for 150 or 3 days for 250. During that time you can run textual and graphical searches in that jurisdiction as often as you like, which is useful when you are working through several variants of one mark. Opening a jurisdiction is not a button on the search screens, so contact support to have it activated for your account. The Confirmation of Purchase window always shows what a search will cost before you run it, and Subscriptions shows the current figures for your plan.

Plans are changed by an Admin of the account in Profile > Subscriptions; if you are a Contributor or Reader you will not see that panel and should ask one of your administrators. In Subscriptions the Admin sees the available plans, Free, Core and Prime, with what each includes, and chooses the new one. The change takes effect the next time you sign in, so after confirming it sign out and in again to see the new allowances. When you move to a higher plan the increase is charged pro rata for the remainder of the current period, using the payment methods kept in Billing, where the Admin manages the account's cards, PayPal and current account. Your Gold credits are not affected by a change of plan: they are bought separately, never expire and stay on the account whatever plan it is on, still being used only when no Silver credits remain. Silver credits, on the other hand, come with the plan, so the monthly allowance follows the plan you are on. Because the account is shared across Darwin Suite, the subscription you change here is the one for GSE; the account's subscriptions to other systems are managed separately. For the price of each plan, see Subscriptions or speak to the sales team.

Darwin GSE prices each search or screening when you ask for it, so there is no single fixed price. The cost is calculated for the service you choose, such as a Positioned Screening, a text search or a graphical search, for your account's country and for the jurisdictions you select, and it changes if you add or remove jurisdictions; text searches are priced separately from graphical ones. Before anything is charged, the Confirmation of Purchase window shows what you are buying, the jurisdictions and Nice classes, the amount under This search will cost and your balance before and after, so you always see the cost first and can cancel. Costs are expressed in credits. As listed in the plans, on Free you receive 225 Silver credits on sign-up plus 150 a month, a detailed Screening costs 113 Silver, a text search in EU, WO, PT and ES costs 25 Silver, and 250 Silver opens a jurisdiction for 24 hours of textual and graphical All-You-Can-Search. Core gives 1,300 Silver a month with All-You-Can-Screen with full details and All-You-Can-Search for text in PT, EU, WO and ES; Prime gives 1,950 Silver a month with All-You-Can-Screen with full details and All-You-Can-Search, textual and graphical, in the same four. Subscriptions shows the current figures for your plan; for prices in money, see Subscriptions or contact the sales team.

Darwin GSE uses two kinds of credit, and both appear in your balance in the user menu. Silver credits come with your plan: you receive an allowance every month, and the Free plan also gives an initial amount on sign-up. As listed in the plans, Free gives 225 Silver credits on sign-up plus 150 a month, Core 1,300 a month and Prime 1,950 a month; Subscriptions shows the current figures. Gold credits are bought separately, never expire, and are used only when no Silver credits remain, so they act as a reserve that keeps you working once your monthly allowance has run out. When you run a search or screening, your Silver credits are used first; once they are gone, Gold credits are used, and if your balance falls short, the Confirmation of Purchase window shows the Remaining cost and lets you pay it through Payment Options. Some services are priced in Gold credits, notably expert analysis by a human, which is charged in Gold per jurisdiction according to your plan. Credits belong to the account, so they are shared by the users who work in it. You buy Gold credits with the + next to the balance in the user menu, choosing one of the tiers offered and paying by PayPal or card.

Your credit balance is always at hand in the user menu at the top of the screen, where Darwin GSE shows your Silver credits and Gold credits separately, with a + to buy more. You also see it at the moment it matters: whenever you run a search or a screening, the Confirmation of Purchase window shows your Available balance before the purchase and what it will be afterwards, and, if the balance is not enough, the Remaining cost still to pay. The balance belongs to the account, not to you personally, so it is shared by every user who works in the same account, and a colleague's searches also draw on it. If you belong to several accounts, the balance shown is that of the account selected in the Accounts menu, so switch account if the figure looks unexpected. Remember that Silver credits are the monthly allowance of your plan, while Gold credits are bought, never expire and are used only when no Silver credits remain. Admins can also manage payment cards, PayPal and the account's current account in Profile > Billing, and see the plan in Subscriptions. If a figure does not match what you expected, contact support through the Help Centre.

You can buy Gold credits from the + next to your balance in the user menu. This opens a window titled Prepare your account for non-interrupted operations, which offers several tiers of Gold credits, one of them marked Most popular; choose the one that suits you and press Purchase Credits, then pay through PayPal or with a card. Gold credits never expire and are used only when no Silver credits remain, so buying some in advance means your work is not interrupted when your monthly allowance runs out. There is a second route: Transaction details leads to Funding options, which lists amounts you can add to the account, some of them with a bonus, and Add funds completes the purchase. Payment is made with PayPal, either with a PayPal account or with a card through PayPal, or with a saved card, and card data is processed by PayPal. The credits are added to the account, not to you personally, so they are shared by all its users. What you can do here may depend on your role; the account's Admins also manage cards, PayPal and the current account in Profile > Billing. Money prices are not given in this Help Centre, because they change: the purchase window and Subscriptions show the current offer, and the sales team can help with larger needs.

The Confirmation of Purchase window appears every time you run a search or a screening that has a cost, so that you know exactly what you are buying before anything is charged. It shows the type of service, for example a screening or a complete, graphical or textual search; the Jurisdictions included, shown as All when you selected none and therefore searched all; and the Nice classes. Under This search will cost you see the price in credits, and under Available balance you see your balance before and after the purchase. If your credits do not cover the whole cost, a Remaining cost line tells you how much is still missing. You then choose what to do. Cancel closes the window without charging anything, so you can go back and change the jurisdictions or classes if the cost is higher than you expected. Proceed is available when your balance covers the cost and runs the search straight away. Payment Options lets you pay with PayPal or a card when the balance is not enough. Silver credits are used first, and Gold credits only when no Silver credits remain. If the figures look wrong, cancel and contact support through the Help Centre rather than proceeding.

When your balance does not cover a search, choose Payment Options in the Confirmation of Purchase window. You can pay with PayPal, either signing in to your PayPal account or paying with a card through PayPal, or with a card saved to your account. If you use a card that is not yet saved, New card asks for the Card holder, Card number, Expiration date in MM/YY format and CVC, and you can mark it as your Default card so that it is offered first next time; Change Card lets you pick another saved card. Visa and Mastercard are accepted. Card data is processed by PayPal, so Darwin GSE does not handle your full card details. Once the payment goes through you see Success, saying that the search is being executed and that you can close the message but should not navigate away from the form, and Payment was accepted. Keep the page open until the results arrive, because the charge is completed only then. If something goes wrong, you may see Payment was stopped or rejected., The card is not valid! or Please fill your card information.; check the details or try the other method. Admins can manage saved cards and PayPal in Profile > Billing.

You can save a card the first time you pay with one. In Payment Options, choose New card and fill in the Card holder, the Card number, the Expiration date in MM/YY format and the CVC. If something is missing or wrong you will see Please fill your card information. or The card is not valid!, and you need to correct it before continuing. Saved cards appear under My cards, each identified by its last digits and expiry date, and a card whose date has passed is marked (expired) so that you know to replace it. To have a card offered first in every payment, mark it as Default card; to pay with a different saved card on a particular occasion, use Change Card. Visa and Mastercard are accepted, and card data is processed by PayPal, so only the last digits are shown to you. Cards belong to the account, which is why their management sits with the account's Admins in Profile > Billing, where they can also manage PayPal and the current account; what you can change yourself depends on your role. If a card that looks valid keeps being refused, try paying through PayPal or check with your bank, and contact support through the Help Centre if the problem continues.

Nothing is charged while you are configuring a search or a screening, or while the Confirmation of Purchase window is open: you can still choose Cancel. The process starts when you choose Proceed, or when you pay through Payment Options. At that point the payment is authorised from your balance or through PayPal or your card, and the search starts. You then see Success, saying that the search is being executed and that you can close the message but should not navigate away from the form. The charge is completed once the results arrive, which is why you should keep the page open, without refreshing it or signing out, until the results screen appears. Silver credits are used first and Gold credits only when no Silver credits remain. Once a search has been paid, you can reopen it from its card in the session searches strip at the top of the page without paying again, and running the same unchanged parameters again does not re-run or re-charge it. Changing any parameter, however, creates a new configuration, which is a new search and is priced again. If a search or screening fails, or you are unsure whether a payment went through, check your balance in the user menu and contact support through the Help Centre with the Reference of the search.

No, as long as you reopen it rather than change it. Every search and screening you run appears as a card in the session searches strip at the top of the page, and clicking a card brings its results back without paying again; hovering it reminds you of its Reference, Search type, Search Text, Jurisdictions, Nice classes and Semantic concepts. Running a search again with the same, unchanged parameters does not re-run or re-charge it either. What counts as a new search is a change of parameters: if you alter the text, the jurisdictions, the classes, the Include inactive records option, the semantic concepts or the crops after a run, Darwin GSE shows a Reminder that the search parameters have changed, that a new configuration was created and that you must redo the search with the new parameters. That new configuration is a new search, and the Confirmation of Purchase window shows its price before anything is charged. Keep in mind that the strip belongs to your session: it is cleared when you sign out, and there is no history screen from which to bring back older searches. If you want to keep results, export them to PDF or Excel before you sign out, and give each search a clear Reference so you can recognise it.

First look at the message you received, as it points to the cause. Payment was stopped or rejected. means the payment was cancelled or refused in PayPal or by your card issuer; check that your PayPal account or card can make the payment and try again. The card is not valid! means the card details were not accepted, so check the number, the Expiration date in MM/YY format and the CVC, and make sure the card has not expired. Please fill your card information. means a field is empty. In these cases you can also try another method: if a card fails, pay through PayPal, either with a PayPal account or with a card through PayPal, or choose another saved card with Change Card. A different message, There was a problem connecting with our servers. Please contact support to finalize this operation., means the operation could not be completed normally; do not simply repeat the payment, but contact support through the Help Centre, giving the Reference of the search or screening, the time and the payment method you used, so the team can check what happened and finalise the operation with you. Before contacting support, it is worth checking your balance in the user menu to see whether your credits changed.
